Centre of Excellence Time Series
Category: 2018
Sustained ocean observations are essential for understanding links between physical and chemical drivers and ecosystem responses and for investigations into how long-term changes in the underlying drivers might impact on ecosystem dynamics and the services these provide. However, the management of time series is complex and many issues from scientific to financial and scoietal, need to be taken into account for time series to be sustainable in the long-term. Therefore, while many time series courses have a focus on statistical techniques needed to analyse time series, in this course we take a holistic approach. We will introduce you to different types of time series and will show you different tools for the visualisation and exploration of your time series data (both very important for …

NF-POGO Centre of Excellence. Physics of the Climate System I (Basics)
Category: NF-POGO Centre of Excellence 2021
The Physics of the Climate System “Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, sea level has risen, and the concentrations of greenhouse gases have increased.” This statement in the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2013 is based on a wide variety of climate observations and model simulations. The present characteristics of the climate system are a product of a long-term evolution determined by external forcing (sun, volcanoes) and internal interactions within the climate system, which is composed of atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere, land surfaces, and the …
