Ocean-wide tsunami

A tsunami capable of widespread destruction, not only in the immediate region of its generation but across an entire ocean. All ocean-wide tsunamis have been generated by major earthquakes. Synonym for teletsunami or distant tsunami.


Operational Users Guide for the Tsunami Warning System

a summary of the administrative and operational services and procedures, including monitoring and detection data networks used by the warning centres, the criteria for the reporting and issuing of tsunami information messages, samples messages, the recipients of the information, and the methods by which the messages are sent. Background information to assist users in understanding the products that are issued may also be included. In the Pacific, it was formerly called the Communications Plan for the TWSP.
